Eclisse (Eclipse)_2013 _Installations
The work Eclisse (Eclipse) was created for a project curated by Maria Cristina Strati and dedicated to Michelangelo Antonioni’s Existential Trilogy–La notte (1961), L’avventura (1960) e L’eclisse (1962).
This installation is inspired by the 1962 movie L’eclisse.
I worked on some elements drawn from the film, such as the impossibility of communication, the game of desire created by separation and the inability to love.
A cylindrical construction made of vases and glassware unfolds around a water collection bin. The formal design of this work is grounded on the scene in which the two protagonists (Piero and Vittoria) kiss for the first time: in particular, I was inspired by the figurative characteristics of the location in which this scene is set.
Their kiss is lived so elusively, with desire and anxiety at the same time.
Eclisse (Eclipse) reflects on a missed encounter.
Inside the vases and glasses, wooden figures are stuck, along with some other objects that refer to the game of love played by the characters. The two lovers seem to remain suspended in the air, in a fixed moment, trapped inside, closed, missing, like they both were suffocated by the water in the bin.
